Tetras

Tetras are small shoaling characins from South America and Africa, and they make up one of the largest groups in the freshwater hobby. Neons, cardinals, rummynose, black skirts and embers are among the familiar names, and most stay small.

What they need

Keep them in groups. A proper shoal is calmer, better coloured and far more interesting to watch than a handful of individuals. Soft, slightly acidic water suits many species, with planting, driftwood and gentle lighting to help them feel secure.

The great majority are peaceful and well suited to community tanks, though a few of the larger or nippier types need tank mates chosen with some thought.

Stock rotates constantly and this page shows what is available right now. Livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store.
