Getting the size right

Nominal pipe diameter is the first thing to confirm, and it should match every other part of the run. Schedule is the second, as fittings are made to a particular wall thickness and will not seat properly against pipe of another. Joint type is the third: slip fittings are solvent-welded and permanent, while threaded and union fittings can be taken apart later, which matters anywhere you expect to service equipment.
