Platy

Platies are small, sturdy livebearers from Central America, available in a wide range of colours and tail shapes. They stay compact and rank among the easier community fish to look after.

What suits them

  • A stable tank with gentle to moderate flow
  • Neutral to slightly hard water
  • Groups rather than single fish

Temperament is peaceful and they mix well with other small, non-aggressive species. Like all livebearers they produce live young, so a mixed group will multiply unless you plan otherwise.

They are a reasonable choice for a first community tank and stay useful as calm mid-water company in larger setups.

Our list reflects current stock, which shifts as new fish arrive. Livestock is sold for local pickup in Lethbridge.
