Rainbows
Rainbowfish come mainly from Australia, New Guinea and Sulawesi. Colour develops with age, so young fish often look plain next to what they become after some months of good care.
How to keep them
They are active, open-water swimmers that need length to move and do best in shoals. Clean, well-oxygenated water with moderate flow suits them, and a planted tank with clear swimming lanes shows them off.
Most species are peaceful and mix comfortably with other lively fish of similar size, though they can outpace slow or timid tank mates at feeding time.
They suit larger community tanks and keepers willing to wait for colour to come in.
Stock changes as new fish arrive and this page shows what is on hand. Livestock is sold for local pickup in Lethbridge.
