Peacocks

Peacock cichlids, or Aulonocara, come from Lake Malawi and are kept for the intense blues, yellows and reds that males develop as they mature. Females stay comparatively plain.

Keeping peacocks

These are medium-sized rift lake cichlids that want hard, alkaline water, a sand base, rockwork for shelter and open sand to forage over. Filtration should be generous and water changes regular.

Peacocks are calmer than mbuna but still territorial, so they belong with other Malawi cichlids of similar size rather than in a general community. One male to several females keeps squabbling down.

Stock turns over as new fish arrive, so the listings show what is available at the moment. Livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store.
