Nymphaea Lotus / Tiger Lotus
Nymphaea lotus, usually sold as tiger lotus, grows from a bulb and sends up broad leaves on long stems. Left to its own devices it reaches for the surface and floats its leaves there.
Growing tiger lotus
- Bulb: rest the bulb on the substrate or bury it only partway, leaving the growing tip exposed.
- Root feeding: it benefits from root tabs once the roots are established.
- Lighting: moderate light is enough. Brighter light deepens the tone in red varieties.
- CO2: not required.
- Placement: centrepiece or background, where the large leaves have room.
- Difficulty: undemanding once the bulb sprouts.
Cutting the tallest stems near the base keeps the plant lower and bushier. Availability rotates with our stock. Plants are sold for local pickup in Lethbridge.
Root tabs are listed under Plant Fertilizer & Additives.
