Echinodorus

Echinodorus, the sword plants, are large rosette plants that anchor a layout. A mature specimen can fill the back corner of a tank on its own.

Growing sword plants

  • Rosette: plant the crown at substrate level with the roots spread out beneath it.
  • Root feeding: swords are heavy root feeders and respond well to root tabs placed near the base.
  • Lighting: moderate light suits most species.
  • CO2: not required, though it does speed growth.
  • Placement: background or centrepiece, with room for the leaves to spread.
  • Difficulty: undemanding, given enough substrate depth and food.

Give a sword a deep bed to root into and it will hold a spot for years. Stock rotates as orders arrive, so current availability is what appears on this page. Plants are sold for local pickup in Lethbridge.

Deeper substrate helps: see Gravel & Substrate.
