Two quite different products share this page, and confusing them is a common and costly mistake.

Aquarium salt and marine salt mix

Freshwater aquarium salt, such as the API and Fluval products here, is sodium chloride used in small measured doses as a treatment aid in freshwater tanks. It will not make saltwater. Marine salt mix, such as Instant Ocean and Reef Crystals, is a full blend of the major and minor elements found in seawater, dissolved to a target specific gravity for marine and reef systems. Seachem Cichlid Lake Salt is a third thing again, formulated for African rift lake chemistry.

Salt is bought with a hydrometer or refractometer, a test kit and a mixing container. We also sell mixed saltwater by the gallon.
