Barbs
Barbs are busy, shoaling cyprinids and the backbone of a lot of lively community tanks. Most aquarium species sit in the small to mid range as adults, though a few grow considerably larger, so it is worth checking the individual listing before pairing them with smaller fish.
They are happiest in groups of six or more. Kept in ones and twos, several species turn nippy and pester long-finned tankmates; kept properly in numbers, that behaviour largely settles into the group. Give them open swimming length, moderate flow and a secure lid.
Hardy enough for a first community tank and interesting enough for a species display. What is listed is what is in the shop this week. Livestock is sold for pickup at our Lethbridge store.
