Plants (artificial)

Artificial plants give a tank greenery without lighting, dosing or trimming. The range runs from small foreground pieces through to extra-large background plants, including Aqua-Fit bonsai styles, Fluval betta plants and Tetra GloFish colour-changing pieces.

Choosing

Height and placement go together: short plants at the front, taller stems along the back where they screen a filter or heater. Leaf stiffness is the second consideration, since softer, more flexible leaves are kinder to long-finned fish than hard moulded plastic. Base type is the third, as weighted bases sit on any substrate while some pieces are meant to be pushed into gravel.

Artificial plants are usually bought with substrate, driftwood and a background.
