Media Clip-On

Replacement media for hang-on-back filters. This page currently carries AquaClear insert sets in the 30, 50 and 70 sizes, each containing foam, activated carbon and BioMax.

Fit and rotation

Size is not optional, since an insert cut for a 50 will not seal in a 30, so match the number printed on your filter housing. Beyond that, the useful habit is staggering replacement. Foam and carbon can be changed on a regular schedule, but the biological media holds your bacteria colony, and swapping everything in one go strips out filtration you have spent weeks building.

These are commonly bought with a spare impeller and a conditioner for the water change.

Canister owners should look at External Media instead.
