Vallisneria
Vallisneria is a tall rosette plant with ribbon-like leaves that rise from the substrate and move with the current. It spreads on runners, so a few plants become a stand over the following months.
Growing Vallisneria
- Rosette: plant the crown at substrate level and keep it from being buried.
- Lighting: low to moderate light is enough.
- CO2: not required.
- Placement: background, where long leaves can lie along the surface.
- Difficulty: undemanding.
- Note: it reacts badly to some plant treatments containing certain algaecides, so read labels before dosing a planted tank.
Thin the runners occasionally to stop the stand taking over. Stock rotates, so what is listed here is what we have. Plants are sold for local pickup in Lethbridge.
A similar habit on a smaller scale: Sagittaria.
