Crayfish / Lobster

Freshwater crayfish, sometimes sold as freshwater lobsters, are hardy scavenging crustaceans with real personality. Adult size varies a great deal between species, from dwarf crays that stay very small to species that need a tank of their own.

Two things drive success with crays: territory and escape-proofing. They are territorial toward each other, so caves, pipes and hides need to outnumber the animals in the tank, and a tight-fitting lid is not optional because they will climb out given the chance. They will also catch slow or sleeping fish and prune soft plants.

Best suited to a species tank or a robust setup rather than a delicate planted community. Stock rotates. Livestock is sold for pickup in Lethbridge.
