Echinodorus schlueteri is a mid-sized sword plant that forms a rosette of broad, softly rounded leaves on short stems, staying more compact than the large Amazon swords. That makes it useful as a midground feature in a tank where a full-size sword would simply take over, and the leaf shape reads as a distinct texture against fine-leaved stem plants.
Growing it in your tank
- A rooted plant that takes most of its nutrition through the roots.
- Use root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate for good growth.
- Bury the roots but leave the crown sitting above the substrate.
- Grows steadily in moderate light without carbon dioxide injection.
- Stays more compact than the large sword species, but still needs space around it.
- Trim damaged outer leaves at the base rather than cutting them short.
It suits planted community tanks, angelfish setups and South American biotope-style aquariums. Goldfish and large digging cichlids will uproot or shred it. Please put surplus plant material in the household waste rather than releasing it outdoors.
Stock rotates with each delivery, and live plants are available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the live plant collection.
