This is the green counterpart to the familiar red Ozelot. The spotting is still there, but the leaves behind it stay green rather than flushing bronze and red, which gives a subtler, more restrained look and holds its appearance better under moderate lighting. Both are cultivars of the same lineage, so choosing between them is a question of what suits the tank rather than of one being hardier than the other.
Aquarium care
- Mature plants often send up a long stalk that produces adventitious plantlets rather than seed.
- Leave a plantlet on the stalk until it has three or four leaves and visible roots, then cut it free and plant it.
- Feed the substrate with root tabs. Liquid dosing alone rarely satisfies a sword.
- Bury the roots and keep the crown at substrate level.
- Emersed-grown leaves normally melt off after planting and are replaced by submerged foliage.
Good for aquarists who want to grow their own stock over time. Place it in the background of a roomy community tank with fish that leave the substrate alone, such as tetras, rasboras, corydoras or angelfish.
Availability moves with each order. Local pickup at our Lethbridge store; more Echinodorus is listed here.
