Glo Barb-Red

GloFish tiger barbs are tiger barbs (Puntigrus tetrazona) from a fluorescent line, bred so the body carries a strong red glow under normal aquarium lighting and a more intense one under blue light. The colour is inherited rather than injected or dyed. Underneath it they behave exactly like ordinary tiger barbs: fast, busy, endlessly curious and happiest in a crowd that gives them something to chase.

Aquarium care

• Adults reach roughly 7 cm.
• Keep eight or more. Small groups are far more likely to harass their tankmates.
• Active and known to nip fins — not a fish for long-finned or slow companions.
• A mid-water swimmer that uses the whole tank; give it open swimming length.
• Tropical temperatures and clean, well-filtered water suit it; it is not fussy about hardness.
• An omnivore that takes flake, small pellets and frozen foods readily.

They suit a robust community with other barbs, larger danios, rainbowfish, or bottom-dwelling loaches and catfish. Do not keep them with bettas, angelfish, gouramis or anything trailing long fins. As with every aquarium fish, they must never be released into local waters or a garden pond.
