Albino Tiger Barb

The albino tiger barb is a colour form of Puntigrus tetrazona, the same fish as the standard tiger barb from Sumatra and Borneo but bred for a pale cream and gold body. The four vertical bars survive as soft white bands rather than black ones, and the fins carry the usual orange-red edging, which stands out more against the light background. Behaviour is identical to the wild-type fish: fast, nosy and constantly interacting with the rest of the group.

Aquarium care

• Reaches about 7 cm.
• Busy and pushy, and a fin nipper when kept in small numbers.
• Keep eight or more so the chasing stays within the group.
• Wants open water to swim in with planting around the sides and back.
• Mid-level swimmer.
• Omnivorous: flake, pellets, frozen bloodworm and brine shrimp.

Mixes well with the standard and green tiger barbs, and with other quick, short-finned fish such as danios and larger tetras. Keep it away from angelfish, bettas, guppies and anything else with trailing fins.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the rest of the current barbs.
