Asian vallisneria (Vallisneria spiralis) is a compact tape grass with narrow green ribbons that twist gently as they lengthen, giving a softer and finer texture than the giant forms. It stays shorter too, which makes it usable in tanks where jungle val would simply lie flat across the surface.
Aquarium care
- Rosette plant. Bury only the roots and leave the crown clear of the substrate so it does not rot.
- Works as a midground or background plant, and along the side panes as a living screen.
- Low to moderate light is enough, and CO2 injection is optional rather than necessary.
- Propagates by runners. New plants appear a few centimetres away and can be separated once they have rooted.
- Root tabs help considerably in nutrient-poor gravel.
- Trim tired outer leaves off at the base rather than cutting leaf tips, which brown at the cut.
A sensible choice for someone building a first planted tank, and for peaceful community aquariums where small fish appreciate somewhere to slip out of view. Livebearers, rasboras and corydoras all sit comfortably alongside it.
Plant stock rotates with each shipment and is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the other vallisneria in stock.
