Fish food is the department we stock most deeply: flakes, granules, pellets, wafers and supplements for community fish, goldfish, bettas, cichlids, shrimp and marine livestock. Brands include Tetra, Omega One, Fluval, Northfin, Hikari and Seachem, and the selection changes as stock turns over.

Matching food to fish

Start with where the fish feeds. Flakes suit surface and mid-water feeders, while sinking pellets and wafers reach plecos, corydoras and loaches. Then look at diet, since herbivores need vegetable-based food and predatory species need higher protein. Pellet size is the third factor, because food a fish cannot fit in its mouth simply fouls the water.

Food is usually bought with a feeder for time away and a gravel vacuum for the leftovers.
