The tiger mickey mouse platy is a line of Xiphophorus maculatus combining two familiar patterns: the mickey mouse marking at the base of the tail, three dark spots arranged so they read as a head and two ears, and tiger edging, where the scales are outlined in black to give a netted look over the body colour. The base colour is usually orange, red or yellow, and the effect is busier than a plain platy without being messy.
Aquarium care
- A small, deep-bodied livebearer, easy to house.
- Peaceful and community safe.
- Keep more females than males to spread the chasing.
- Prefers harder, alkaline water.
- Swims through the middle and upper levels.
- Omnivorous: flake, micro pellets, frozen foods and a little vegetable matter.
One of the easiest fish for a first community tank, alongside corydoras, small tetras, rasboras and other livebearers. Mixed groups breed readily, so expect fry.
