Cryptocoryne hudoroi is a Borneo species with narrow, strongly textured leaves that carry a distinct hammered or bullate surface and often a reddish-brown cast on the underside. It is one of the more collectable crypts rather than a general-purpose plant, and it appeals to people who enjoy slow, deliberate planted tanks rather than fast results.
Growing it in your tank
- Plant the roots in substrate and leave the crown exposed; use root tabs in inert gravel or sand.
- Prefers soft, slightly acidic water, in keeping with its Borneo stream origins.
- Grows in low to moderate light and does not require carbon dioxide injection.
- Slow growing even when conditions suit it.
- Prone to crypt melt after planting or after a change in water conditions. Leave the roots alone and new leaves generally follow.
- Dislikes being uprooted and moved.
It suits low-tech planted tanks, blackwater setups and shrimp or small-fish aquariums where conditions stay stable. It is not a plant for a tank with goldfish or large cichlids. Please dispose of surplus plant material in the household waste rather than outdoors.
Stock rotates with each delivery, and live plants are available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the live plant collection.
