We do not take backorders on live fish, invertebrates or plants. Livestock arrives on the shipping schedule our suppliers and the weather allow, so we will not promise a date we cannot keep.

The black moor is a fancy goldfish (Carassius auratus) with a velvety black, egg-shaped twin-tailed body and protruding telescope eyes. These are extra-large fish rather than juveniles. The eyes are the defining feature and the main practical consideration: a telescope-eyed goldfish sees poorly, finds food slowly, and damages its eyes easily on anything sharp.

Aquarium care

  • Coldwater; no heater needed in a normally heated room.
  • A poor swimmer compared with single-tailed goldfish, so keep flow gentle.
  • Smooth decor only — no sharp ornaments, rough rock or coarse gravel.
  • Feed sinking pellets and give it time; it will not win a race to the food.
  • Heavy waste output means strong filtration and generous water changes.
  • The black colour often shifts toward bronze or orange with age. That is normal, not a fault.

Keep black moors only with other slow-swimming fancy goldfish such as fantails, orandas and ryukin. Single-tailed comets and shubunkins will take every meal first and leave a moor underfed. Goldfish are invasive where introduced in Canada, so never release one into any waterway or storm pond.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the goldfish collection.
