Male super blue diamond guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are bred for saturation: a deep metallic blue running from the head through the body and into the fins, with far less of the pale or clear areas seen in ordinary blue guppies. Under aquarium lighting the effect is closer to enamel than to a normal fish colour. The trade-off with heavily line-bred guppies is that they want stable, settled conditions rather than a brand-new tank.
Aquarium care
- Males stay small, roughly 3 to 4 cm in the body plus fins.
- Needs hard, alkaline water with stable temperature and good quality.
- Best in a mature, cycled aquarium rather than a newly set-up one.
- Keep flow gentle so the fins are not worked constantly.
- Peaceful and active near the surface and mid-water.
- Feeds on flake, micro-pellets and small frozen foods.
They suit a quiet hard-water community with platies, corydoras, otocinclus and small rasboras, or a male-only tank if you would rather avoid breeding. Fin-nippers are not suitable company. Never release aquarium fish into local waterways or a pond.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the guppy collection.
