Sun snails (Clithon donovani) are tiny nerite relatives from Southeast Asia with rounded shells scattered in orange, gold and black spotting. Their size is the appeal: they get into corners of the hardscape and along leaf surfaces that larger snails cannot reach, and a small group is far less obtrusive in a nano tank than one big snail would be.
Aquarium care
- Very small โ often under 1 cm.
- A grazer of film and soft algae on glass, wood, rock and plant leaves.
- Does not damage healthy plants.
- Will not breed in fresh water; the larval stage requires brackish conditions.
- Needs enough calcium and hardness to maintain the shell.
- Suited to mature tanks with established algae growth rather than brand-new setups.
They work well in planted nano and community tanks with small peaceful fish and dwarf shrimp. Because they are so small, avoid keeping them with anything that eats snails, including loaches, pufferfish, larger cichlids and assassin snails. Keep the tank covered, as nerites climb.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the snails collection.
