Staurogyne repens, listed here with the common misspelling "Straurogyne", is a compact, bushy foreground plant from Brazil with small, rounded, deep green leaves on short branching stems. It behaves less like a carpet and more like a low hedge, creeping sideways as it branches rather than running under the substrate the way a grass does.
Aquarium care
- A stem plant rather than a rosette, so plant short stems individually and let them branch.
- Trimming is what makes it dense. Cut the tops and the plant branches from below.
- Replant the trimmings to widen the group.
- Needs good light to stay low, because under weak light it grows upward instead of outward.
- Benefits from root tabs and water column dosing alike, and from CO2, although it can be grown without it.
A reliable foreground or lower-midground plant for community tanks with small tetras, rasboras, corydoras and shrimp. It is sturdy enough to sit at the front of a tank without being pushed around by moderate flow.
Stock rotates, and plants are for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the plants collection.
