The snow white calico molly is a standard-finned form of Poecilia latipinna with a clean white body carrying light black speckling. Without the extended lyre tail it is a stronger, more workmanlike swimmer than the long-finned varieties, and it tends to hold up better in a busier community tank. Mollies come originally from coastal waters of North and Central America, which explains their preference for hard, mineral-rich conditions.

Aquarium care

  • Adults commonly reach 8 to 10 cm.
  • Hard, alkaline water is the single most important requirement; soft water causes most molly problems.
  • An active omnivore that grazes algae and needs vegetable matter alongside flake or pellets.
  • Occupies the middle and upper levels of the tank and is on the move most of the day.
  • Peaceful with other species; males chase females, so keep more females than males.
  • Livebearing, so fry will appear in a settled tank.

They suit a hard-water community with platies, swordtails, larger rasboras and peaceful barbs. Avoid mixing them with fish that require soft, acidic water. Never release aquarium fish into local waterways or garden ponds.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the molly collection.
