The snow white calico lyretail molly is a pale, lightly marked form of Poecilia latipinna finished with a lyre-shaped tail โ the upper and lower rays extend into long trailing points, and mature males often carry an elongated sailfin as well. The fins are the point of this variety, and they are also what shapes its care: long-finned mollies swim less powerfully than plain-finned fish and are more easily bullied.
Aquarium care
- Adults reach roughly 8 to 10 cm, with the tail extensions adding to that.
- Prefers hard, alkaline water with steady parameters.
- Needs gentle to moderate flow; strong currents wear long-finned fish out.
- Not a fish for fin-nippers such as tiger barbs or serpae tetras.
- Omnivorous, with vegetable matter and algae forming a real part of the diet.
- Livebearing, so young appear without any intervention.
Good tankmates include platies, other mollies, peaceful rasboras and corydoras in a hard-water community. Keep two or three females per male so no single female is harassed. Never release aquarium livebearers into local waterways or ponds.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the molly collection.
