The albino rainbow shark is a colour form of Epalzeorhynchos frenatus, the same Southeast Asian cyprinid as the standard rainbow shark but without dark pigment. The body is a pale pink-white, the fins are a strong red-orange, and the eyes are red. Against dark substrate and wood it stands out sharply. Temperament is exactly that of the normal form, which is the part that matters most when deciding whether to buy one.
Aquarium care
- Reaches around 15 cm and wants floor space rather than height.
- Territorial. Keep one per tank only.
- Will not tolerate other rainbow or red-tailed sharks.
- Needs caves, pipes and wood to claim as a base.
- Grazes algae and biofilm from surfaces as well as taking prepared foods.
- Omnivorous: sinking pellets, algae wafers, flake and frozen foods.
Best kept singly with quick mid-water tankmates such as barbs, danios and rainbowfish. Slow bottom-dwelling fish and any second shark are poor choices.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the current shark list.
