Phosphate itself is not toxic to fish at the levels aquariums usually see. The reason to track it is nuisance algae, and in reef tanks, coral growth. Freshwater tanks often run well above the range this kit is designed for, so a heavily stocked or freshly fertilised planted tank may need its sample diluted before testing.

If a reading comes back high, phosphate-binding media such as PhosNet, PhosGuard and PhosBond are the usual response, and all sit in our water care range. Available for pickup in Lethbridge.
