We do not take backorders on live fish, invertebrates or plants. Livestock arrives on the shipping schedule our suppliers and the weather allow, so we will not promise a date we cannot keep.

What is in the tanks changes from week to week. Ask us and we will tell you what is in and what is coming, or check back shortly. Visit us or get in touch.

Sea hares (Dolabella auricularia) are large, soft-bodied marine sea slugs, mottled brown and lumpy enough to pass for a piece of live rock until they move. They are bought for one reason: an established sea hare will strip hair algae off rock faster than almost anything else available. That is genuinely useful, and it comes with a catch worth stating plainly before you buy.

Aquarium care

  • Grows large, often to 15 cm or more, and gets bulky with it.
  • An obligate herbivore that eats hair algae and other soft algae, and little else.
  • Once the algae is gone it will slowly starve unless it is moved on or supplementary algae is provided.
  • Can release a cloud of purple ink if badly stressed or attacked.
  • Needs guarded pump and overflow intakes; a soft-bodied animal drawn into a powerhead is a serious problem for the whole tank.
  • Sensitive to copper-based medication; drip acclimate on arrival.

Treat one as a short-term tool for a tank with a real hair algae problem, and have a plan for where it goes afterwards. It is a poor choice for a small tank, and it should not share space with crabs, triggerfish or puffers that will pick at it. Ask our staff about sizing before you commit.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. More in the saltwater collection.
