We do not take backorders on live fish, invertebrates or plants. Livestock arrives on the shipping schedule our suppliers and the weather allow, so we will not promise a date we cannot keep.

What is in the tanks changes from week to week. Ask us and we will tell you what is in and what is coming, or check back shortly. Visit us or get in touch.

The regal angelfish (Pygoplites diacanthus) is among the most beautiful fish on an Indo-Pacific reef — bold orange and white bands edged in blue-black, finished with a yellow tail. It is also one of the more difficult marine angelfish to establish, and its reputation varies sharply by collection region, with Red Sea specimens generally adapting better than others. The core problem is diet.

Aquarium care

  • Adults reach around 25 cm and need a large, fully mature aquarium.
  • In the wild it feeds heavily on sponges and tunicates; many specimens are reluctant to take prepared foods, and some refuse outright.
  • Not reef safe — it is likely to sample corals, clams and other sessile invertebrates.
  • Shy on arrival and easily bullied; it needs generous rockwork and caves.
  • Demands stable, high-quality water in a settled system.
  • An expert-level fish, not a beginner's angelfish.

Suited only to an experienced keeper with a large fish-only system, calm tankmates and the patience to work at feeding. Ask our staff what the individual in stock is eating before you buy — that answer matters more than anything else about this species.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the saltwater fish collection.
