The red cobra guppy (Poecilia reticulata) takes its name from the body pattern: a dense network of fine dark markings over the flanks, said to resemble snakeskin, set against a bold red tail and dorsal. This listing is for males, which carry all of the colour. Cobra patterning varies between individuals, so it is worth looking at what is actually in the tank rather than relying on a photograph.
Aquarium care
- Males reach roughly 3 to 4 cm in the body, with fins adding to that.
- Wants hard, alkaline water with stable temperature.
- Gentle flow โ long-finned guppies struggle in a strong current.
- Peaceful and constantly active in the upper half of the tank.
- Eats flake, micro-pellets and small frozen foods.
- Avoid fin-nippers, which will target the large fins immediately.
A group of males alone is a good option if you do not want fry. Otherwise keep two or three females per male. They suit a hard-water community with platies, corydoras, otocinclus and small peaceful rasboras. Aquarium fish must never be released into local waterways or ponds.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. Browse the guppy collection.
