Orange sushi shrimp are a Neocaridina davidi line selected for a warm, even orange that carries right through the body. They are constantly busy, working over wood, moss and substrate with their front limbs, and they are easy to watch for far longer than you intend. As with every dwarf shrimp, the thing that determines whether a colony thrives is not colour but water.

Aquarium care

  • Adults reach about 3 cm.
  • Peaceful and completely safe with live plants.
  • Needs moderately hard water with sufficient calcium and magnesium; failed moults are almost always a mineral or stability problem.
  • Grazes biofilm and algae; supplement with shrimp food and blanched vegetables.
  • Copper in medications, some fertilisers and old plumbing is lethal to them.
  • Acclimate slowly by drip โ€” shrimp handle a gradual change far better than a fast one.

They suit a mature planted tank with small peaceful fish, or a species tank if breeding is the goal. Chili rasboras, ember tetras and pygmy corydoras are reasonable company, though none of them will ignore a shrimplet. Avoid cichlids, loaches, larger barbs and any fish big enough to swallow an adult.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the shrimp collection.
