Nesaea (Nesaea sp.) arrives as a stem plant with narrow, closely set leaves that shade from olive green through to orange and copper at the growing tips. This is a non-specific listing: several species and trade forms move under the Nesaea name, and much of the group has since been reclassified into Ammannia, so the exact plant varies from one shipment to the next. Ask our staff what came in with the current order.
Aquarium care
- Stem plant. Plant individual stems a couple of centimetres apart so light reaches the lower leaves.
- Midground to background, almost always shown as a grouped bunch rather than a single stem.
- Wants high light. Colour and compact form fade quickly in a dim tank.
- Genuinely CO2 hungry. Injected CO2 and a full fertiliser routine make it far more reliable.
- Propagate by cutting the top few inches and replanting them, after which the cut stem branches below.
- Root tabs support it in inert substrate.
This is a plant for experienced planted-tank keepers running high light and CO2, not a first attempt. In a tank set up for it, the colour sits well against green stems and small schooling fish such as rummynose or harlequin rasboras.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and local pickup is available at our Lethbridge store. See the nesaea collection.
