The neon kuhli loach is one of the banded Pangio loaches from Southeast Asia, sold under this trade name for its brighter, more contrasted banding than the ordinary kuhli. Several closely related Pangio species reach the trade under overlapping names and they are difficult to tell apart with certainty, so we describe it by what it is rather than fixing a species label to it. The body is slender and eel-like, cream to gold, with dark saddles that wrap most of the way around.
Aquarium care
- A small, slender burrowing loach.
- Peaceful and no threat to any other fish.
- Keep a group of six or more; alone it never leaves cover.
- Needs soft sand rather than gravel, to protect its barbels.
- Wants wood, leaf litter and shade, and it is most active at dusk.
- Bottom feeder: sinking pellets, wafers and frozen bloodworm.
- Keep the lid on and screen filter intakes.
A gentle addition to a planted community with tetras, rasboras and corydoras. Care is the same as for the standard kuhli loach.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the current loach and botia list.
