Mini Christmas Moss

Mini Christmas moss (Vesicularia montagnei) is a compact aquatic moss whose side branches grow out from the main stem in a regular, tapering pattern that looks like a row of small fir trees — hence the name. The mini form has shorter, denser fronds than standard Christmas moss, so it holds a tidier shape and is easier to keep looking deliberate rather than shaggy.

Growing it in your tank

• Does not need to be planted — tie or glue it to wood or rock and let it attach over time.
• Grows well under low to moderate light; strong light mostly encourages algae on the fronds.
• Slow growing, which is exactly why it stays neat.
• Trim occasionally to keep the layered shape and to stop the lower fronds shading out.
• Prefers gentle flow and stable, mature water.
• Provides excellent cover for shrimplets and small fry.

It suits shrimp tanks, nano aquascapes and any planted tank where you want moss with structure rather than a loose mat. It is a good match for dwarf shrimp, small rasboras and other calm fish. In tanks with large cichlids or goldfish it will simply be torn apart.
