Microsorum Pteropus "SP / Windolov"

Windelov java fern (Microsorum pteropus "Windelov") is a lace-leaf cultivar whose leaf tips branch out into fine, finger-like crests. The effect is softer and more intricate than the plain java fern, and it stays reasonably compact, so it works in smaller tanks where the full-size form would crowd the view.

Aquarium care

• Do not plant the rhizome in the substrate. The horizontal green rhizome has to stay exposed or it will rot away.
• Tie or glue the plant onto wood or stone. The roots anchor themselves over the following weeks.
• Comfortable in low to moderate light, and it tolerates the shade cast by taller plants.
• A slow grower that needs neither CO2 nor a heavy dosing schedule.
• Feeds through its leaves from the water column rather than through its roots.
• New plantlets form on mature leaves and can be removed once they have roots of their own.

Well matched to beginners and to low-tech tanks that get left alone between water changes. The leathery leaves are not easily torn, so it is a common choice for tanks holding plecos, larger cichlids and other fish that are hard on softer plants.
