Rinse it thoroughly before it goes anywhere near the tank. Even gravel sold as dust-free picks up fines in the bag, and skipping the rinse will leave the water cloudy for days. Do it in batches in a bucket until the water runs clear, then lay it in the empty tank before you fill.
