We do not take backorders on live fish, invertebrates or plants. Livestock arrives on the shipping schedule our suppliers and the weather allow, so we will not promise a date we cannot keep.

The marbled sleeper goby (Oxyeleotris marmorata) is a heavy-bodied Southeast Asian ambush predator, mottled in brown and cream with a very wide mouth and eyes set high on the head. It will sit motionless on the bottom for hours at a time, which is where the sleeper name comes from, and that stillness disguises how large and how capable a predator it is.

Aquarium care

  • Grows very large for a goby, commonly beyond 50 cm.
  • Sedentary, but a big fish still needs a big volume and heavy filtration.
  • An ambush predator with an unusually large gape โ€” it will swallow fish you assumed were far too big.
  • Nocturnal, and needs caves, pipe or shaded cover to feel secure.
  • Takes meaty frozen foods; many individuals are slow to accept prepared food.
  • A slow, deliberate feeder that is easily beaten to the food by faster fish.

Keep it on its own or in a very large tank with fish far too big to be eaten. It is not a community fish under any circumstances, and it is a poor choice for anyone who wants a display animal that is visible during the day.

Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the assorted and interesting collection.
