Ludwigia Natans (Super Red)

Super Red is a selected line of the familiar Ludwigia, chosen because it holds red further down the stem and across the whole leaf rather than only on the undersides of the top few pairs. Under a strong light it is one of the deepest reds available without resorting to difficult species. Under a weak light it behaves like any other Ludwigia and drifts toward green with a rusty tinge, so the cultivar name is a description of potential rather than a guarantee.

Aquarium care

• Give it the brightest position in the tank if colour is the reason you are buying it.
• Separate the stems and plant them individually so light reaches down the group.
• Iron and a complete micronutrient mix support colour once lighting is already sufficient.
• Added carbon dioxide is not required, but it noticeably improves density and colour.
• Trim the tops and replant the cuttings to thicken the stand over a few weeks.

A strong choice for a display planted tank as a red counterpoint to green backgrounds, with small schooling fish such as rummynose tetras, harlequin rasboras or cardinal tetras in front of it.

Availability rotates. Pick up at our Lethbridge store; the rest of our Ludwigia is listed online.
