Ludwigia inclinata "Cuba" (Ludwigia inclinata) is one of the showier red stem plants, producing long narrow leaves that curl and flare outward from the stem and colour through orange to deep red at the tips. Grown well it becomes a genuine focal point. Grown in the wrong conditions it simply stays green and leggy.

Aquarium care

  • Stem plant. Plant stems separately so light can reach the whole length rather than only the crowns.
  • Background, or a raised midground group where the height and leaf shape are visible.
  • High light is what drives the red colouration.
  • Injected CO2 and steady fertilising, iron and other micronutrients included, make a large difference.
  • Propagate by cutting the top and replanting it. The base then branches into several new stems.
  • Prefers stable water conditions and answers sudden swings by dropping its lower leaves.

This one belongs in a high-tech planted tank run by someone who already doses and injects CO2 on a schedule. It is not a low-light beginner plant, and it will disappoint in a tank that cannot support it. Against green backgrounds and small tetras it looks the part.

Stock rotates with each shipment and is available for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the ludwigia collection.
