The panda cory (Corydoras panda) earns its name honestly: a cream to pinkish-white body carrying three blocks of black, one over the eye, one on the dorsal fin and one at the base of the tail. This is the long-finned line, in which the dorsal and caudal fins are drawn out into flowing extensions that soften the whole outline of the fish. It is a Peruvian species and one of the most popular small corydoras in the hobby.
Aquarium care
- Reaches roughly 5 cm.
- Peaceful, active and community safe.
- Keep six or more; panda corys are noticeably more confident in numbers.
- Sand or smooth rounded gravel, never sharp substrate.
- Bottom-dweller. Feed sinking wafers, pellets and frozen bloodworm.
- Prefers cooler, well-oxygenated water than many tropical fish.
Panda corys suit planted community tanks with small tetras, rasboras and dwarf cichlids. The long fins are the one thing to plan around: keep known fin-nippers such as tiger barbs and Colombian tetras well away from them.
