Lilaeopsis Mauritius

Lilaeopsis "Mauritius" is a carpeting grass from the Lilaeopsis group, generally listed as Lilaeopsis mauritiana. Its blades are a little taller and broader than the smallest members of the genus, which makes it useful where a true miniature carpet would simply vanish. All the growth happens sideways, from runners threading through the substrate.

Aquarium care

• Divide the mat into small portions and plant them spaced out, then let them close the gaps themselves.
• Spreads by runners, so leave it undisturbed once it is in.
• Wants good light at substrate level. In shade the blades stretch and the turf opens up.
• Root feeding suits it, whether from root tabs or an enriched substrate.
• Grows without CO2 but slowly, and CO2 shortens the wait considerably.

A sensible foreground or transition plant for a moderately lit community tank with small, calm fish and shrimp. The main thing it asks for is time, so resist the urge to replant it while it establishes.
