Kordon Rid-Ich Plus

Rid-Ich Plus is a long-standing formalin and malachite green treatment used against ich and other external protozoan and fungal problems in fresh and salt water.

Key features

• A conventional, non-herbal treatment for external parasites, usually run in a quarantine or hospital tank.
• Works in freshwater and in fish-only marine systems.
• Kordon states that the product does not harm established biological filtration when used as directed.

Important cautions

• Not for invertebrates. Malachite green is lethal to shrimp, snails, corals and anemones. Do not use it in a reef tank or a shrimp tank.
• Scaleless fish such as loaches, many catfish and elephant noses are sensitive to malachite green and formalin. The label carries reduced-dose guidance for them, so read it rather than estimating.
• Remove activated carbon before dosing, because carbon strips medication straight back out of the water. Keep aeration strong as well, since formalin reduces dissolved oxygen.
• Malachite green stains silicone, decor and skin. Treating in a bare hospital tank avoids most of that.
• Dose rates, repeat intervals and water-change steps are all on the label, and we do not restate them here.
