This listing is for female dumbo ear bettas (Betta splendens) — females carrying the selectively enlarged pectoral fins that fan out from the body as the fish swims. On a female the effect is different from a male: the body is shorter, the tail and dorsal are modest, and the oversized pectorals become the whole silhouette. Females are also noticeably busier than males, patrolling a tank rather than hovering in one corner of it.
Aquarium care
- Adults reach around 5 to 6 cm.
- Tropical — a heater is required, not optional.
- A heated, filtered tank of around 19 L or more suits a single female.
- Keep flow gentle so the enlarged pectorals are not constantly working.
- Needs unobstructed surface access to breathe air.
- Feed a quality betta pellet with frozen bloodworm or daphnia.
She will do well on her own, or in a community with corydoras, otocinclus, kuhli loaches and nerite snails. Groups of females are often suggested but are genuinely difficult — they need space, heavy planting and a keeper willing to separate fish quickly, so treat it as an experienced-keeper project rather than an easy option.
