Aquarium care

• A medium cichlid that needs a long tank with a big open sand area.
• Fine soft sand is essential. Gravel prevents the sifting behaviour and can damage the gills.
• Social and best kept in a group of five or more, where they establish a loose hierarchy.
• Peaceful for a cichlid, though pairs claim a patch when spawning.
• Prefers soft, warm, clean water with good filtration.
• Omnivorous: sinking pellets, frozen bloodworm and brine shrimp.

Excellent alongside severums, angelfish, larger tetras and peaceful catfish in a big South American tank. Not one for a small aquarium or a gravel substrate.
