Fluval Carbon

Fluval's activated carbon, the chemical media most often reached for when water turns yellow, smells off, or still holds medication after a treatment.

How carbon actually behaves

Carbon does not last indefinitely. It fills up, and from that point it is inert material taking up basket space, so it is replaced rather than rinsed and reused. It also cannot tell medication from waste, which is why it should come out of the filter for the duration of any treatment and go back in afterwards.
