Flow, and why foam matters

Canister output falling off is almost always foam that has packed with waste. Rinsing in used tank water restores most of the flow and preserves the bacteria at the same time. Replace blocks only as they physically break down, and stagger those replacements across services rather than doing the lot in one go.
