Nevill's crypt (Cryptocoryne nevillii) is a small Sri Lankan crypt with short, strap-like green leaves forming a compact low rosette. The naming around this plant has been muddled for decades, and much of what circulates under the name is closely related material from the same group, so treat the label as a trade name and have a look at the current batch in person.

Aquarium care

  • Rosette plant. Roots go into the substrate, crown stays exposed.
  • Foreground, or the front edge of the midground, planted as several small clumps.
  • Melting after transplanting is normal. Leaves may collapse in the first few weeks. If the roots are still firm, leave the plant alone and it will regrow from the base.
  • Undemanding on light. Low to moderate is enough, and it does not require CO2.
  • Root tabs are the most useful fertiliser for it, more so than liquid dosing.
  • Spreads slowly by runners into a low mat.

A good match for shaded low-tech tanks and for keepers who would rather plant something once and let it establish. It sits well under taller stems and around driftwood, with small bottom-dwelling fish moving through it.

Stock rotates with each shipment, with local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the cryptocoryne collection.
