Sterba's cory (Corydoras sterbai) is one of the most striking of the genus and, for many keepers, worth the extra cost over the common species. The head is dark and covered in fine white spots that break into horizontal lines along the body, and the pectoral and ventral fins carry a strong orange wash. It comes from the Guapore river basin on the Brazil-Bolivia border, in water that runs warm.
Aquarium care
- Reaches roughly 6 cm.
- Peaceful and community safe.
- Keep six or more.
- Comfortable at the warm end of the tropical range, unlike most corydoras.
- Sand substrate, which suits both the barbels and the fish's foraging habit.
- Bottom-dweller. Feed sinking wafers, pellets and frozen bloodworm.
The warm-water tolerance is the reason Sterba's cory is the standard choice for a discus tank, where most other corydoras struggle. It also does perfectly well in an ordinary tropical community alongside tetras, rasboras and dwarf cichlids.
Stock rotates with each shipment, and livestock is sold for local pickup at our Lethbridge store. See the current corydoras.
